Bentley was formed in 1919 in Cricklewood, London. It was taken over by Rolls-Royce in 1931. Originally known for its high-power, motorsport-bred cars, its middle life was concerned with luxury at the top end. In the mid-Eighties, however, it regained its speed mojo with the Mulsanne Turbo and Turbo R. The firm was bought by Volkswagen in 1998.
